This is the time of the year when it would be easy to go crazy. There are Holiday programs, ball games, and special events at the schools. You still have some Holiday lights to put up. You have all that shopping to do. You have all of the family gatherings to plan and prepare for. All of this makes me tired just writing about it.
When is the last time you took a little mental vacation. Just a little break from all the madness. The standard response is that you do not have time for taking a break. I remember 30 years ago, I had an older customer said he made sure that he scheduled in an 8 minute nap every day. I thought it was absurd at the time. How do you get any kind of break or rest out of an 8 minute nap?
I now have a similar solution, which is probably similar to his idea. It requires that you clear your mind of everything you have to do tonight, tomorrow, or this weekend. All that is required is to sit quietly and think about nothing. At first you may only be able to do it for a few minutes and then day by day you will work your way up to a full 8 minutes or longer if you have the time. The obvious question is how do you think about nothing. The method is to concentrate on your breathing, a positive affirmation, or a prayer. If a thought comes flying in during the break, you mentally push it aside because you are officially on a mental break. Try it for a week and I think you will be amazed at the results.
Find something amazing, it may be under some snow, but it’s there waiting for you to take a few minutes to notice.
Thanks for stopping by.
